And they refuse to take the bait.
I didn't sign up for this when I went into education. All I wanted to do was teach kids how to play music. What I got in exchange for my 4 1/2 years of hard work unappreciative students with attitudes to match. I have never in my life met a group of students who care so little about...everything. So many of them don't care about school or what's going to happen after they graduate and it makes me sad that they have so little of themselves.
Did I mention that this is my first year teaching? Oy.
What I am working on now is building up my "teacher's callous." All of the crap that happens to me tends to follow me home. Today, for instance, is the end of the first week of school after Christmas break and all of my kids were INSANE. It seems that the students who had attitudes BEFORE break got even worse. I ended up being pretty confrontational several times today alone and it makes me feel like a failure. But I refuse to take crap from anymore of my students anymore.
I have no idea if anyone is going to be reading this, but I would love for this to become a kind of support thing for any other teachers who happen to stumble upon this. Anyone with suggestions would be awesome, too.
